School Days, School days

UWSP LogoSchool days, school days Dear old Golden Rule days ‘Reading and ‘riting and ‘rithmetic

Well I’m back to school and about halfway through my first semester back and I am working to get a degree in Mathematics education.  That’s right!  I’m working to become a High School Math teacher!  So far things seem to be going well, especially when it is taken into consideration that this is my first semester back in 12 years.  I am taking Biology 101 (intro to biology,) History 178 (US history 1877 to present,) Math 120 (Applied geomemetry and Calculus I,) Music 100 (Music appreciation.)

By far the class that is giving me the most difficulty is the one that I am enjoying the most, Calculus, or as I like to call it, Fun with Numbers!  It makes me feel good knowing that most of my classmates are 18-20 years old and have taken a calculus level class  a lot more recently that I have and I’m keeping up as well as they are.  The parts that are giving them problems are the same parts that are challenging me.  Namely remembering the basic trig identities, and geometric functions.  All that said, I’m managing a C+/B- which while it isn’t the A I would love, its a lot better than the C-/D+’s that a lot of my classmates are pulling.

History is going fairly well, I’m not getting an A but I am holding at a good steady B.  Biology is an A-/B+, and Music is an A (I know, for those of you who know my musical background that comes as a big shock doesn’t it.)

Well its time to get back to the books, I just wanted to update this site seeing as I haven’t had the opportunity as of late.  Have a great day everyone!  Now where did I put that calculus book…

NE WI ARES/RACES Ham Shack at the WI State Patrol Headquaters – Rib Mountain

The Wisconsin State Patrol Headquarters in Rib Mountain (Wausau, WI) is getting its very own Ham Shack!  For the past week Dave Levorson N9KNY, Mark Rasmussen N9MEA, and myself have spend quite a bit of time at the Headquarters of the Wisconsin State Patrol, and before you ask, no we were not under arrest!

What were we doing there then you ask?  Why we were building the Ham Shack for the ARES/RACES group to use at the Marathon County and NE WI District Level to provide emergency communications to the State Patrol during times of emergency when normal communications channels are offline for whatever reason.

When the ham shack is complete, it will have HF through 440mhz capabilities as well as APRS and Winlink2K.

Diary of a Free Man – Day 2

You know, at first I was a little concerned how well this whole leaving Broadband thing was going to work out but I have to say so far its great!  I have to say that I am very fortunate to have such great friends.  With my friends at my back, I have no doubt that I will be able to make a living.

Tomorrow I will be running a network cable for three assisted living facilities in the Central Wisconsin area, an opportunity I would not be aware of without one of my friends, and also one that I would not be able to take advantage of if I was still working for Broadband.

Next week I will start my sales job as well, which does give me continuing flexibility to do these sort of jobs as well.  I expect that I will see many more opportunities such as these to present themselves in the weeks, months, and perhaps even years to come.

Have a great day,

Travis
